Build-A-MOOC Workshop
You've likely heard of the Build-A-Bear Workshop and have probably seen one at your local shopping mall. Well, now it's time for a Build-A-MOOC workshop.
Massive Online Open Courses (MOOC) are all the rage in higher education. Be it the "Connectivist" MOOCs (or cMOOCs) led by the likes of Dave Cormier, George Siemens and Stephen Downes or the more corporate-run MOOCs (or xMOOCs) offered by the likes of Coursera, Udacity, etc., these large-scale learning experiences are causing many questions to be asked by higher ed. administrators.
Some have considered the possibility of creating massive open online courses for secondary school students, but MOOC-mania has mainly settled in the world of higher education. In this workshop, though, we'll see if we can begin to craft a meaningful learning experience for high school students that is massive, open and online. We will see if, within the time constraints of one Educon session, we can literally build a MOOC for high school students across the world.
Conversational Practice
This is a workshop. It is hands- and minds-on. We'll have a facilitated conversation, small group discussions, and use Google Docs to write a proposal together.
